Final Output

The final output for this task is an MP4 video of our inspirational video we illustrated.

Techniques Applied

Using the knowledge gained from the previous exercises, as well as my adapted knowledge I was able to create my final output.

Illustrations -

For the illustration bit, I used my knowledge over the past few tasks, where I used the pen tool for mostly every path created, as well as shadows & highlights (used gaussian blur to get the highlights / glowing effects, and radial blur to create the blush on her face). However, I did not use the live paint tool to fill in my shapes, and just used the fill part of the pen tool to colour my elements, to make the process easier in my opinion.

- Pen tool

- Blur effect

However for a few areas, I utilised the paint brush tool where I free-handed the paths made to create a "sketched" and hand-drawn style, inspired by my moodboard.

Animation / Video -

For the animation video, I have followed and adapted the slides he has provided us with to create it, where I put the file into photoshop first to flatten all the file layers, and then use the tools which we learnt in class in After Effects (pin tool, positioning, easy ease, etc). However, for my video I wanted to add some effects that were not stated in the slides, like fading out the ending scene, and adding text to my composition, and so resorted to the internet for answers.

Audio -

For the audio, we were required to provide a narration as well as sound, I interpreted sound as background music, and so I sourced both of these from the internet. The narration I got from a website my teacher provided (https://elevenlabs.io/) where I got my narrator from. The background audio I got from YouTube, where it was copyright free music. - I chose her voice as I searched in the website for "calm woman", and they provided me with options and I thought she suited my video the best. I altered the settings to make her talk slower for my video, as well as increase the similarity / stability to make the voice more expressive, however also running the risk that there might be errors.

Self Reflection

This assignment has shown me a lot about how visuals can affect the story and narration, and while developing my storyboard I found it to be difficult to depict the true meanings of the story in my point of view, especially for others to understand as well, which taught me how to effectively get my point across and express my ideas to the fullest. My favourite part about this assignment was creating the whole video, with all the compositions being completed, as I enjoyed to see it all come together.

Something that I can improve about my submission would be the quality of my illustrations. Though I think they are really nice, and a good effort on my end, I still feel as though I can do better and express my artistic abilities better, however I am restricted because od Adobe Illustrator, where I haven’t reached my full capabilities, and haven’t learned more about the software to fulfill my expression and art style. I wish I got more familiar with it faster, however this is the best I could’ve done given my knowledge and time towards this task. I have to get used to Illustrator, and maybe find out more about using other softwares to accompany Illustrator, to express myself further.
