Documentation

For our documentation, we had to record our process whereby we documented our sketches, moodboard, rationale and other planning criteria into a PDF for submission.

Final Output

The final output for this task was the lineart of 3 character, and the coloured version.

Techniques Applied -

Using the knowledge gained from the first exercise (ghost line art / colouring), I began to create the proper line art using Adobe Illustrator, as well as colour. I utilised the pen tool, live paint tool, shape tools, and playing with opacity to create the design.

Self Reflection

The first task for this semester showed and introduced me to Adobe Illustrator, and how to illustrate using the tools inside. For this task, we had to create 3 characters, the designs were completely up to us, which gave me the creative freedom to do something I wanted, as well as what I was capable of doing, having never used AI before. It was a very good start to the module, as this task taught me the basics and how to get used to using these specific tools and how AI actually works. It is quite tedious, however I have managed to make something I like and add elements that make it interesting. My favourite part about this task was designing the characters, as I like to design things and this allowed me to express myself freely in terms of design, as well as the complexity of it, where as a beginner I couldn't really achieve a lot.

Something I could improve on for future submissions as well as this one would be getting more familiar / doing more research on AI to make the journey of creating designs easier. It is not exactly drawing, and we have to use a lot of points and angling to get the desired effect, and so I feel that I can practice more, as well as find more techniques to use to express myself better. Another thing I could improve on was exploring how to make the designs more visually compelling, using different line widths, etc, which was explained by our teacher, but I never really got or applied it to my work now. I look forward to the future assignments.
